The Niterói Contemporary Art Museum (MAC) is located in the city of Niterói in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Designed by architect Oscar Niemeyer with assistance of structural engineer Bruno Contarini, complete in 1996, the floating white disc-shaped and three-floored structure sits at 16 metres high with a 50m diameter.

Underneath, the cylindrical base is surrounded by a reflecting pool of water, and what Niemeyer had likened to just “like a flower”.

Renowned in Brazil as a landmark institution, the museum showcases the permanent collection of Joao Sattamini, a Brazilian private collector who has amassed one of the biggest private collections of contemporary art in the world, including travelling exhibitions.
