21_21 DESIGN SIGHT's GRAND PROJECTS: HOW FAR WILL YOU GO?
What makes a Grand Project? It’s vast scale, or simply it’s ambitious scope? Tokyo’s 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT latest exhibition ‘Grand Projects: How Far Will You Go?” highlights key artists and projects who have transcended the impossible to create bold and innovative ideas on a huge scale.
Exhibition Director Naoko Aono (a renowned arts, culture and architecture writer in Tokyo) presents an excellent curation of pivotal global creatives and their key works; from Christo and Jean-Claude (The Floating Piers, The Mastaba Project), architect Junya Ishigami (Church of The Valley), Numen/For Use (Tape Tokyo 02), Dani Karavan (Axe Majeur, Negev Monument), Lucerne Festival Ark Nova (a moveable concert hall created by Anish Kapoor and Arata Isozaki, initially as a response to the Fukushima disaster in 2011), including site-specific works created especially for the exhibition: Tatzu Nishi‘s Capsule Hostel 21, and Georges Rousse‘s optic illusion ‘Tokyo 2017′.
The exhibition follows the incredible production process that goes into executing projects permanent or temporary, of such large scale and their dynamic approach, usually involving people who usually have nothing to do with art or design yet inspiring a greater perspective of the unlimited possibility that anything is possible.
Now, ask yourself; How Far Will You Go? to execute your own idea of any scale or size.
