LIVE TWICE

A Cocktail Bar That Transports Guests To Mid-Century Japan

For those who have seen the famed Bond film of the same name adapted from author Ian Fleming’s 1964 novel — Live Twice — the title may be ultimately familiar. The name also leads one of Singapore’s most esteemed bar destinations. Cocktail bar Live Twice transports guest to mid-century modern Japan inspired by a world of refined craftsmanship and attention to detail through skilled artistry honed over generations of knowledge. Inside, find exquisite Japanese glassware to vintage mid-century seating and lighting by Finnish-American architect and industrial designer Eero Saarinen, Japanese-American sculptor and artist Isamu Noguchi to Italian designer Gastone Rinaldi to name a few.

The effortless omotenashi — referring to the Japanese custom of true hospitality — is evident at Live Twice. Here bartenders go above and beyond for guests, ensuring no stone is left unturned for a memorable evening.

The extensive cocktail offering and concise bar food list was masterminded by Principal Bartender David Kim and Jigger & Pony Group’s Creative Director Uno Jang — defining a key originality and creativity for Live Twice’s atmosphere and quality of drinks.

Segmented into three categories One Life for Yourself (a modern interpretation of classic cocktails), …And One for Your Dreams (whimsical creations taking inspiration from geisha personalities), to Seasonal Cocktails that aim to ‘evoke taste memories of the different seasons’. Live Twice’s signature Vesper — numbered ‘007’ on their list — is a stand-out cocktail. Guests are first invited to select the glass for their Vesper from three styles of varying Japanese hand-crafted glassware by specialist Kimura. The subtle aroma of the citrus peel envelopes the senses, whilst the gin-base from Kyoto-based distiller Ki No Bi (utilising their Ki No Bi ‘Sei’ 54% navy-strength version with 11 botanicals) paired with Absolut Elyx (a single batch vodka manually produced in a copper still) and Tempus Fugit Kina, then shaken in a two-piece shaker with larger ice cubes and strained to allow for textural larger shards of ice to appear in the glass. Sublime.

BALANCE & SURPRISE

At Live Twice, expect the unexpected — one of their signature cocktails, Mizuwari, is a surprising concoction blending a base of Suntory Chita Single Grain Whisky and Yamazaki Distiller’s Reserve Whisky, both combined with soft water from Hokkaido and aged together in a small tsubo ceramic vessel that sits behind the bar. The Hokkaido soft water naturally retains less minerals, ensuring that the chemical compounds of the cocktail remain undisturbed. The detail-driven science behind Live Twice’s mixology reflect their determined focus on ‘cocktails that amplify the characters of the spirits,’ notes General Manager Martin Villareal.

For those eager to discover more, Live Twice sits amongst forward-thinking Jigger & Pony Group’s extensive portfolio of Singapore bars, many of which are counted within the World’s 50 Best Bars. Their rolodex features; cocktail bar Gibson focussing on Asian ingredients; Sugarhall, a cocktail pub that specialises in rum; Humpback, a modern seafood restaurant and wine bar; Caffe Fernet, a new Italian restaurant; and Rosemead, a farm-to-table American grill restaurant.

Through their innovative cocktails and a sophisticated interior that creates an unmatched atmosphere, Live Twice is a must-visit destination in Singapore.
