BLUE BOTTLE COFFEE UMEDA CHAYAMACHI
In Osaka, Find The Coffee Chain's Latest Space With Frosted Glass & Terrazzo Detailing Designed By I IN
Beauty through simplicity. Across the ground and first floor of a high-rise building in Osaka’s Umeda Chayamachi district, find Blue Bottle Japan’s latest outpost with an almost all-glass facade that floods light throughout the 345sqm space. BLUE BOTTLE COFFEE UMEDA CHAYAMACHI is designed by Tokyo-based studio I IN led by co-founders Yohei Terui and Hiromu Yuyama who were inspired by both the fluidity and layered complexity of coffee itself to create a multi-dimensional interior underneath its minimalist design. Highlighting the iconic Blue Bottle sky blue colour notably found in the brand’s logo, the ground floor’s standing area presents the same striking blue as curved, layered glass tabletops. The interior’s digital elements provide a complimentary juxtaposition to the tactile elements of terrazzo and frosted glass detailing found in tables and seating. On the cafe’s second floor, a large rectangular screen mimicking a skylight presents a work by digital Panoramatiks as an artwork of immersive sounds and light, and on the staircase — find a surprising burst of coffee-coloured glass balls suspended from the ceiling, handblown by local Osaka studio Studio Fresco. The new cafe is an exciting new space, fusing digital innovation with unique design encounters.
