It’s not difficult to feel at one with nature when taking in stunning sea views from atop the ancient acropolis of Athena in the Greek island town of Lindos. The same connection to the elements can be found at Lindos Blu, a 72-room luxury boutique hotel with a panoramic look over the Mediterranean just a couple of kilometers away from the charming whitewashed village. The adults-only, family-owned hotel offers an indulgent getaway on the island of Rhodes, and its impressive amenities are sure to make one feel like a god or goddess.

With units built down the side of a hillside leading to the hotel’s private beach, the stone-covered exterior takes inspiration from the natural surroundings. A large infinity pool awaits visitors on the second floor, while a second pool can be found further down.

Those fortunate enough to stay in one of the eight Junior suites – as we did on this visit – can lounge in a 25-square meter pool right outside of the room’s terrace, shared only with the suite next door. At a spacious 38 square-meters, the suite is equipped with a comfortable sofa perfect for taking in sea views, while light wood and light blue, white and grey fabrics accentuate the seaside setting. The hydro-massage bathtub was a highlight, as it is separated from the main room by a mere glass panel, allowing bathers to take in the panoramic views while getting a back massage. The complimentary fruit plate and prosecco provided upon arrival was a welcome touch, as were the soaps, shower gel and hair products with natural ingredients like citrus and aloe from Greek-brand Korres.

If one can manage to leave the suite’s comforts, the hotel has a host of additional facilities to explore, not in the least a Finnish-style steam room, a traditional wooden sauna and a small indoor pool. For some serious Grecian pampering, the full-service Elixir Spa offers an impressive range of services. The “kallos” line of treatments is named after the ancient Greek concept of beauty which is both on the inside and out, and treatments utilize all-natural ingredients and 2,000-year-old techniques, such as the Spartan tradition of massaging with green olive oil.

The staff are friendly and their service impeccable, whether assisting guests at the concierge or serving in one of the bars or dining facilities. The hotel’s Smeraldo restaurant offers a combination of buffet service – appetizers, salads and an impressive range of deserts –  combined with decadent ala carte mains, such as braised duck and tuna served artfully. Those looking for one of the best fine dining options on the island can visit the hotel’s award-winning gourmet eatery, Five Senses, which uses the island’s native ingredients to showcase Greek cuisine at its most refined.

Two years ago, guests told the hotel’s owners they would like more space to sunbathe and the feedback was taken seriously. A new wing features a rooftop sundeck with lounge chairs and two whirlpools– sunbathers can even phone the Luna Rossa bar downstairs to have their beverage of choice delivered. Housed in the new wing, the bar is contemporary with furniture in hues of blue and green to compliment the seaside setting. Padded stools and chairs from the Tonella line by Spanish brand Sancal and small grey sofas by French producer Ligne Roset are juxtaposed with sensual paintings by local artist Angelos Spartalis. Taking in the view on one of the stylish outdoor chairs by Barcelona-based brand Kettal is an ideal way to pass an hour with a drink in hand.

With so many ways to relax and enjoy a stay at Lindos Blu, the real danger is forgetting to explore charming Lindos right down the road.
