For the three-month duration of the 2017 Bi-City Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism (UABB) in Shenzhen, Guangzhou-based cafe APF. KAFE have set up a second post as a temporary pop-up in the Biennale’s main venue in Nantou Old Town.

Located in UABB’s main venue, an abandoned factory building area in Nantou Old Town in Shenzhen, the pop-up cafe sits in a former police station. APF. KAFE POP-UP‘s owner Peter Fong explains the design; “The design element of the space was inspired by the original factory building that is just next to it (the main venue of the exhibition). The design intends to enhance a sort of urban village element, inviting us as a cafe to be a part of the exhibition.”

Serving Seven Seeds coffee and MORK hot chocolate (both sourced from Melbourne) in an all-tiled interior designed by British design studio UV Architects. With green, blue, white and red tiles in a hypnotic mosaic covering the cafe communal seating and counter areas, it’s a nod to a common (and unintentional) design feature found in urban villages and homes. Fong further notes; “Mosaic tile is the most common factory or even houses facade material that you can see back in the 80s.”

Currently open for the duration of the Biennale, the pop-up will close on 15th March, 2018.
