Rosetta

Mexican chef Elena Reygadas' Michelin-starred restaurant in Mexico City

Tucked inside a leafy townhouse in Mexico City’s Roma Norte, Rosetta is the flagship restaurant of chef Elena Reygadas, known for her intuitive, ingredient-led approach to contemporary Mexican cuisine and a deep respect for Mexican ingredients.

Receiving a Michelin star in 2024 – one of the first restaurants in the Michelin Guide when it extended to Mexico – the restaurant is a unique dining experience through the eyes of Reygadas.

Celebrating Mexico’s culinary heritage, the dining experience is sophisticated and educational in an elegant way, where diners can learn more about Mexico’s traditions and native ingredients.

The menu moves with the seasons, grounded in local produce and heirloom varieties—wild herbs, native corn, tropical fruits—transformed with restraint and intention.

Inside the restaurant set over two floors, natural textures and soft light shape the atmosphere, such as linen, wood and ceramics. Custom tableware has been designed by Reygadas and made especially for Rosetta, along with glassware such as the hand-cut water glasses (an artisanal technique in Mexico).

Modest yet original, the interiors here are very unique to Rosetta, and an ideal match for the Roma area. Mexican filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón shot his remarkable film ROMA in the same neighbourhood, albeit much, much further north (on 22 Tepeji Street). Still, the neighbourhood has a quiet charm about it, one where it is possible to walk along tree-lined sidewalks away from the city hustle and bustle.

Also not to miss, two flights upstairs in the townhouse lies Salón Rosetta, an intimate ‘bar lounge’ area where guests can enjoy a refined selection of wines, house infusions, and classic cocktails before or after dinner. A great way to explore Mexican spirits and wines from makers such as Barrigón and Tierra de Peña from Querétaro in Mexico (it was also a surprise to see South Australia’s Gentle Folk ‘Rainbow Juice 2022’ by the bottle), in addition to in-season ingredients for non-alcoholic options.
