GYORAKUTEI

In Ito Within Japan's Izu Peninsula, Enjoy The Excellence of Local Fish & Spanner Crab

Located on the second floor of an unassuming fishmonger, Gyorakutei is a modest family-run restaurant serving locally-caught fish from the small fishing port town Ito, along Japan’s Izu Peninsula.

Find aji (Japanese horse mackerel), sazae (sea snail) to asahi-gani, a delectable and highly-sought smaller species of spanner crab only found along Ito coast, on the menu. The Chef Omakase Set Meal is highly recommended; a teishoku set meal of suzuki fish (sea bass) features sashimi to cooked fish served with rice, pickles and marinated innards of seafood. Mottainai. Nothing is wasted here.

At Gyorakutei, it’s both evident that they deeply care about their customers as much as their respect for the fish they serve. Everything is cooked and prepared so exceptionally well. Find the first generation chef, the father, passionately cooking in the kitchen along with his two older sons that also prepare the fish in their fishmonger outlet below. Their longterm relationships with local fisherman ensure they always offer the best catch, and also prepare their supply for the town’s best restaurants and hotels. Delicious dining that encapsulates that quality of Ito. A true gem of the town.
