GOLDEN AVENUE
Smoke, Stone & Levantine-Inspired Cuisine at this Restaurant Defined by Its Design
On Edward Street, in a low-rise pocket of preserved city fabric, Golden Avenue opens as the seventh venue from Brisbane’s beloved Anyday hospitality group – and its first foray into the CBD.
Founded over ten years ago, Anyday (created by Tyron Simon, Bianca Marchi, Ben Williamson and Frank Li) have slowly been reshaping Brisbane’s dining scene with distinct design identities leading equally as impressive menus at every venue they launch.
Golden Avenue is their most exciting venture yet.
The kitchen belongs to co-owner and culinary director Ben Williamson, returning to the Levantine cooking that first defined his reputation (when he was at Brisbane institution Gerard’s). Wood ovens, coal grills, house-made bread cooked to order. Head Chef Tim Yates (most recently of London’s Scully) rounds out the kitchen team and approach to locally-sourced ingredients, knowing each supplier directly.
Golden Avenue have assembled a stellar staff list of talent – from manager Samuel O’Reilly (previously of Orana in Adelaide) and sommelier Oliver Parish whose focus on sustainable winemakers and producers is extremely well curated, finding responsible organic or biodynamic winemakers with a compelling, genuine story to match, making ordering any wine here an insightful experience.
The space, designed by Jared Webb of J.AR Office, draws quietly from Moroccan riad form, turning it into a quintessential ‘Brisbane’ experience where tropical plants and palms frame every corner and the outside flows inside because of the unique Queensland climate.
Set back from the street among lush interior gardens, the 500-square-metre interior is sheltered by a perforated shade sail resting on a peristyle, with seven retractable roofs drawing in light and air. Pink Juparana granite, fennel-tinged off-form concrete, tiled surfaces and abundant planting create a setting that is cool, tactile, and genuinely transporting. That’s J.AR Office design, attention to detail is intelligent and precise – no stone is left unturned with the in-demand design studio’s signature approach.
Adjacent, the bar GA is a walk-in, all-day space complete with a snack menu and over 130 bottles behind the bar. With a focus on organic or biodynamic Australian wine (curated by head sommelier Parish), a curated global list of great makers can also be found.
Come for the design and architecture, stay for everything on the menu.
